My chosen anime series: Voltus 5

Picture copied from Cinema Cubana.

Please let me write a bit about one of my childhood’s favourite animated movies here. Please? OK.

So, it’s a Japanese movie. I knew it as Voltus 5, but apparently it’s also called with other names such as Voltes V, Vultus V, or even long title like Super Electromagnetic Machine Voltes V.

I don’t really remember whether I knew it was also a TV serial. Or maybe no kid in Indonesia at that time knew it that way. Perhaps it was just on TV in Japan. And later I just found out it also has long-featured film’s version.

What I do remember is that back on those sweet times as a kid, I mostly watched it through video cassettes (VHS). But actually not all of them; maybe just part of the series. Nevertheless, I can say I considered it – and maybe I still do – as one of the great cartoons I’ve ever seen.

I don’t really know why I like it, since I can’t really understand which animated movie is better than the others. And how could I know back then with my brain as a child? Well, I think I simply loved the way the different five characters – Kenichi, Ippei, Megumi, Daijiro and Hiyoshi – acted and brought up actions as well as some dramas in the movies.

Anyway, this kind of movie like Voltus 5 is known as part of the sub-genres in Japan’s animation or anime, which is called the mecha, or the super robot sub-genre. Yet, within the last couple of years, people or kids in particular, would know more of other sub-genres in this great anime’s world, especially from popular titles such as One Piece, Dragonball Z, Pokemon, or Sailor Moon.
